Description

The Adult & Continuing Education provides classroom-related instruction in accordance with the USDOL Office of Apprenticeship. This course covers construction safety, pre- and post-operation checks of a variety of equipment, site planning and operations for a variety of light-duty and heavy equipment and use of training simulators. Heavy Equipment Operator is a three-year apprenticeship. If an individual wants to be an apprentice, they must complete the following USDOL, Office of Apprenticeship requirements - • Structured On-the-Job Training (6,000 hours/3-years) Apprentices receive hands-on training from an experienced mentor at their place of employment. • Related Technical Instruction (432 hours/minimum of 144 hours per year) Classroom learning designed to complement the trade and on-the- job training. Each year is divided into two 75-hour sessions beginning in September and ending in December, then resumes in January and ends in April. This allows students to earn a minimum of 150 hours of classroom related instruction. This course is a hybrid of one (1) “in-person” class, and one (1) virtual/online instruction per week. Students are required to have internet access to participate and/or complete online assignments. Course cost does not include textbook. Required Textbook: NCCER Heavy Equipment Operators, Level II, 3rd Edition Tuesday (in-person) / Thursday (online) **The first week of classes are held in-person, then hybrid model starts week of 9/19/2023.
